It is the county seat of Philadelphia County.

Philadelphia is home to several historic sites of national importance, including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Second Continental Congress met and the Declaration of Independence was signed. The Philadelphia Art Museum holds major works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cezanne. In front of the museum are the steps made famous by Sylvester Stallone in Rocky.
